About Makini

Owner’s Background

My name is Makini Triplett and I come from a family that did not prioritize education. My mother and father did not graduate from high school and therefore, I was not motivated or encouraged within my household to pursue education. I have always been an A student throughout my academic career, and I enjoyed learning. I decided at a young age that I would finish high school and further my education in order to make positive changes in the world. I enrolled into the Human Services program because I knew that I wanted to work with people and assist them with navigating their strengths to progress in life. My past experiences have motivated me to want to prove to others (that were experiencing their own life challenges) that life can be as great as you make it.

I decided to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education because I believe that children are innocent, and they should all be allowed the chance to have positive life experiences to help them grow and develop into productive citizens to contribute to society. I wanted to contribute to the development of young children with the hope of keeping them excited about learning. Many people have witnessed how passionate I am about the early development and learning outcomes of young children. I have gone above and beyond to translate this through my programming because my childhood experiences were not all positive. My passion for early care and development has allowed me to continue to operate my program successfully.

What We Do

At Priority Kids, the children will learn to interact and solve problems and they will be exposed to unlimited amounts of hands -on experiences.  There will be a wide range of appropriate materials and supplies used to develop large motor skills, small motor skills, creative expression, social interaction and intellectual growth.  Priority Kids currently offers music lessons (music therapy for infants), drama lessons, free meals and snacks, and free field trips (excludes spending money).

Priority Kids Childcare and Youth Center began as a family licensed facility in 2001 and is currently expanding services as an organization that supports youth that are aging out of foster care, re integrating from the criminal justice system and disabled and wanting to become more self-sufficient and independent.  We have provided exceptional care to so many children throughout our years of service and we hope to be able to continue doing so for many years to come with plans of expanding and developing the center to include strategies, programming, and resources that will focus on equity and inclusion for all.

CHILDREN’S INTAKE AND ENROLLMENT

Before admission of a child, a meeting will be scheduled with the parent/guardian(s) to orientate them on the center’s policies, procedures and have an initial intake form completed to obtain information about the child(ren). The Initial Intake Form will assist the staff in developing individualized intentional planning curriculum for the child to ensure that the child is mentally, physically, emotionally and socially stimulated and has a pleasant experience during their time at the daycare.

Tutoring

Dedicated staff will provide one-on-one, group and study-skills based tutoring for all school aged students enrolled. Tutoring subjects include Math, Reading Comprehension/ Writing and any subjects that your child needs help with building their confidence.

Special Needs /Inclusion Care

At Priority Kids CYD, we realize that babies, toddlers, infants and children living with disabilities or special needs have unique care requirements. Our effective models of inclusive education not only benefit students with disabilities, but also create an environment in which every student, including those who do not have disabilities, has the opportunity to flourish.

Our Philosophy

Creativity With Development

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is to meet the nutritional, social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of all children.  Our program is designed to be developmentally, appropriate for children ages 6 weeks – 14 years old.  The children will learn to interact with one another and solve problems with the guidance of the teachers.  The children will be exposed to a variety of hands on experiences to help with their developmental milestones.

NON-DISCRIMINATION INFORMATION

The center will never discriminate against any one because of race, color, religion, national origin or sexual orientation.  We will, to the best of our ability accommodate anyone with differing abilities. We will also, to the best of our ability, incorporate the guidelines of the Americans with Disability Acts, to make the center as accessible as possible.  The center implements cultural diversity into our curriculum on a regular basis so that our children will be aware of the real world around them.

INCLUSIVE CARE

All of the information that we gather will help the staff to make sure that we are closely following the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct ideals and principles.  PKCYC is well equipped to care for children with special needs.  Our specialized training includes: caring for children with special health care needs, behavioral/emotional challenges, children that have experienced trauma (family separation, homelessness, etc.) The staff at PKCYC will stay well informed about early care issues that may arise through continuing education, trainings/workshops and research.  We will be open to new ideas and suggestions from our enrolled families and we will take those ideas and suggestions and implement them into our programming accordingly.  We will complete self-evaluations and self-reflections often to improve our standards and progress as early childhood educators.
